Moong Dal Halwa Recipe

π§Ύ Ingredients:
- Yellow moong dal (split & skinned) β 1 cup
- Ghee (clarified butter) β ΒΎ to 1 cup (as per taste)
- Milk β 1 cup
- Water β 1 cup
- Sugar β 1 cup (adjust to taste)
- Cardamom powder β Β½ teaspoon
- Cashews, almonds, raisins β 2β3 tablespoons (chopped)
π©βπ³ Method:
- Prepare the dal
Wash the moong dal and soak it for 4β5 hours or overnight.
Drain the water and grind the dal into a coarse paste (do not make it smooth). - Roast the dal (important step)
Heat ghee in a heavy-bottom pan.
Add the ground dal and roast on low heat, stirring continuously.
Roast until it turns light golden and releases aroma, and ghee starts separating.
This may take 20β30 minutes. - Add milk and water
Slowly add milk and water while stirring (be careful of splashes).
Mix well to avoid lumps. - Cook the halwa
Let it cook until it thickens.
Add sugar and mix well. The halwa will loosen initially, then thicken again. - Flavor & garnish
Add cardamom powder and dry fruits.
Cook for another 5β7 minutes until the halwa leaves the sides of the pan. - Serve

- Slow roasting gives the best taste and texture.
- Do not reduce ghee too muchβitβs key to authentic flavor.
- You can use only water instead of milk if preferred.
